FinanceThat respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This policy applies to the FinanceThat website and the FinanceThat iOS and Android apps. It explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have, in line with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly — such as your name, email, phone number, and details submitted through listings or financing applications — as well as information gathered automatically, like device, browser, and usage data, when you visit the marketplace.
How we use your information
We use your information to operate the marketplace, match buyers and sellers, process and route financing applications to our lender network, provide support, prevent fraud, and improve our services. We only use your data for the purposes you would reasonably expect.
Sharing your information
We share information with lenders and partners strictly as needed to provide the services you request — for example, routing a financing application. We do not sell your personal information. Service providers who process data on our behalf are bound by confidentiality obligations. Identity verification for sellers is performed by our partner Proovia, which captures and holds the ID and selfie images. FinanceThat does not store those images; we keep only the verification result. Our mobile apps also share your device’s advertising identifier, device and app information, and in-app events with Meta for advertising purposes, as described in “Advertising and analytics in our mobile app” below.
How we protect your data
Your information is encrypted in transit and handled using industry-standard safeguards. Access is limited to personnel who need it to deliver our services, and our infrastructure is hosted in Canadian regions where applicable.
Your rights and choices
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time. You may also opt out of marketing communications. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the marketplace is used. You can choose which optional categories to allow at any time via "Cookie Settings" in the footer, or control cookies through your browser settings — see our Cookie Policy for details.
Mobile app
The FinanceThat iOS and Android apps may also collect, with your permission: your device’s location (only when you choose "near me" or "use my location", to show nearby listings); photos you choose to upload for listings, messages and your profile; and a device push-notification token so we can alert you about offers, messages, financing updates and listing activity. You can turn these off at any time in your device settings or the app’s notification preferences. Financing applications may include a Social Insurance Number, which is optional, encrypted in transit and at rest, and shared only with our lender network to process your application. You can request deletion of your account from within the app (Account → Delete account); we close the account once any open listings, offers or financing applications are settled and confirm by email.
Advertising and analytics in our mobile app
Our iOS and Android apps include the Meta (Facebook) SDK. It collects your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, with your permission; Android Advertising ID), device and app information, and in-app events such as app opens, account registration and listing creation. When you publish a listing, this includes its category, asking price and stock ID. We use this to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram and to reach people likely to use FinanceThat. Meta processes this data under its own Data Policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy).
Your choices
On iOS, you can refuse or withdraw tracking permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads. You can also limit ad personalization in your Facebook/Instagram ad settings. Refusing tracking does not affect any app features. We do not sell your personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you.
